GOD USES BROKEN EGGS

A friend shared a story this morning about a homeless man offering to wash windows in order to make a little money, or get some food. It seems one person he asked rudely told him to get lost, but my friend's son chased the homeless man down and gave him what change he had. He told the man to ignore the mean things of others, because God loves him, and so did this young man.

Our family has gone through some really lean time, just like many others. When our children were growing up, our special dinner (once a month) was a recipe given to me called "Hobo Pie". Our family renamed it "Humble Pie", and it is still a family favorite.

Hope you enjoy it!

HUMBLE PIE CASSEROLE [gf]

1-1/2 lbs. 85% or leaner Ground Beef

1 lg. Package Frozen Tater Tots

2 Cans Cream of Mushroom Soup*

2 Cups Cheddar Cheese shredded

1/4 Cup Dried Chopped Onion

Salt & Pepper

*[gf]. Use gluten free soup.

In large bowl mix ground beef, onion, salt and pepper. Press mixture into bottom of 13x9x2 baking dish, coated with vegetable spray such as Crisco. Arrange tater tots evenly over the meat mixture. Spread soup over the meat and potatoes. Cover with foil and bake at 400 degrees for 50 minutes. Remove from oven and cover with cheese. Reduce oven heat to 350 and bake cassarole (uncovered) for 10 minutes, until cheese is well melted. Remove from oven and let casserole rest for 5 minutes.

Serve with large spoon, big appetites and lots of good veggies!

Imagination: Add canned, drained green beans on top of meat. Use shredded potatoes instead of tater tots. Saute bacon and mushrooms and top the potatoes before baking. Try various cheeses: Jalapeno Swiss, Pepper Jack, Asagio Mix, Mexican Mix (Kraft). This is also wonderful with chicken breasts cut into bite size pieces - added bonus with chicken is reduced calories. Vegans can easily substitute everything in this recipe to make a wonderful vegan casserole.

FIXING THE BROKENESS

But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to
God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the
prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and
everyone’s chains were loosed. (Acts 16:25, 26a)

With Sunny's mentioning of the "humble pie" I have to admit today, I need a big piece of "humble pie"!  Allow me to explain:
I like to sit outside in mornings and have my devotions. My doggies sit at my feet and I just "enjoy" the time with God.  Well, I live in the desert (big frown); so my mornings outside with God have to now start at around 5:00 (that is in the a.m. (just saying) and then it is still a whopping 80 degrees outside!)  So I sit outside for a bit, then I run into my house, crank up the air conditioning, close all the windows and doors; and there I sit.  I call it my own little prison.  In my prison, I moan and groan about not being able to sit outside. I can't go out to walk with my dogs, I can't ride my bike.  I just sit in my prison.
Today, I was reading about Paul and Silas, who I might add, were in a REAL prison, not a self-made prison like mine.  But instead of moaning a groaning, they decided to PRAISE GOD! And through their praising, a mighty earthquake came and their shackles where broken.  They were free!  And there my friend is where my "humble pie" comes in!
I'm sure I'm not the only one who puts myself in my own prisons.  Maybe you feel like a prisoner on your job, a prisoner as a wife or a husband, maybe your a new new mom, you might even feel like a prisoner in your church!  Well, today, instead of moaning and groaning, just decide to send praise and worship up to the Lord!  Let's see what results we may have.  Who knows, our chains may be broken!  Miracles do still happen!

Dear Lord,
Please forgive me for putting myself in my own prisons!  Today, I will praise you, and thank you that I have you in my life!  Thank you for the wonderful beauty you put around me, may I see the world through your eyes today!

  1. Praise the Lord. Thought He has given me today: I inhabit the praises of My people. If they don't praise me, what am I to inhabit? ♥
